Arterial Ulcer

Arterial ulcers are one cause of chronic leg and foot wounds, particularly in the elderly, and in people with diabetes or vascular disease. Arterial ulcers are different from venous ulcers in their presentation and treatment. Arterial ulcers can cause severe pain, most notably during specific periods of exercise or when resting. These ulcers can appear anywhere on the legs or feet, often appearing between the toes or on the tips of the toes. Arterial ulcers have clearly defined outlines, and rather than being depressed, as with venous ulcers, arterial ulcers pop out. The surface of the wound can be pale gray or yellow, and can often become infected with cellulitis, or become necrotic. Whereas venous ulcers respond well to compression therapy, such compression is contra-indicated in arterial ulcers. However, increasing blood supply is still the best way to heal such ulcers; many arterial ulcers are best healed through revascularization procedures. One effective method of treating the surface of this type of wound is through a revolutionary product called Wound-Be-Gone®. This healing gel is hypoallergenic, with no side effects, and no limitations on age or type of wound. This exceptional healing gel maintains a moist environment, promoting rapid healing of arterial ulcers, and reducing scaring.
