Reduce Chances of Getting Pressure Ulcer by a Simple Method

A pressure ulcer is caused by putting all the weight at a particular area without shifting. This usually happens in case of operation, surgeries or patients who are bedridden. After a major operation patients are advised to take complete bed rest and in such cases pressure ulcer develops in most of the patients. When weight is put on a particular area the skin from that area is unable to get proper blood supply and gets thin due to weakness of tissues and so gets pressure ulcers. Pressure ulcers are also known as Bedsore or Decubitus ulcer.

The symptoms of pressure ulcer are; redness on the skin, blister formation and sores that converts into crater. The tissues are damaged due to weight of the body on a particular area during rest. People on wheel chairs also become a victim of this disease.

Areas of the body like elbow, heels, hips, ankles, shoulders, back, and the back of the head are more likely to be effected by pressure ulcer. Pressure ulcers take long time to heal up.

The main cause of pressure ulcer is prolonged pressure. People who are bedridden or are on wheel chairs can have pressure ulcer easily. People with fragile skin or malnutrition can also be a victim of this disease. Urinary discontinuous or chronic diseases can also cause pressure ulcers. Old age is also one of the factors of this disease.

Prevention of pressure ulcers is possible by taking some preventive measures like; keep on changing the position of body and shifting the weight, using pillow to relieve pressure and keeping your skin clean and dry.

The four stages of this disease are categorized according to the severity of the disease. In the first stage the area on the skin gets red. In the second stage of pressure ulcer the skin is broken down and forms open sores. These sores are quite irritating and red. The sores coverts into crater in the third stage and the tissue under the skin get damaged and finally in the fourth stage the damage extends to the bone and muscles and the ulcer becomes quite deep.

When pressure ulcers have already been developed then taking care is necessary to cure it. First of all the main factor should be treated which is the pressure. Pressure should be relived from the effected area by changing position after every 2 hours. Stage of the ulcer has to be considered before treating it. Keep the area clean and dry, you can also use powder to prevent friction. Exercising daily can also prevent or heal pressure ulcers. Pillows, sheepskin, foam padding, and can be used to cure pressure ulcer. Taking proper and balanced diet is essential to treat this disease. Wound-be-gone is a good skin healer and can be used to treat pressure ulcers. Clean the effected area with warm water and rib off the dead tissue. Then apply wound-be-gone on the area where pressure ulcer has appeared. Wound-be-gone is very effective and will take less time to heal up pressure ulcer.
