Optimizing wound healing using technology

Topical healing gel, called Wound-Be-Gone®, is a revolutionary new wound care treatment. The patented formula in Wound-Be-Gone® helps to speed healing of deep wounds and surface skin damage. When an injury, including cut, abrasion or ultraviolet light damage, occurs, the reduction of oxygen at the wound site triggers a surge of free oxygen radicals to the area. This surge of radicals is caused by a defect in the oxidation reducing enzymatic systems of the living tissues near the injury and the activity of present leukocytes. The radical oxygen compounds that are created can cause untold damage to living tissue. Reactive oxygen radicals are problematic in wound healing for a number of reasons. Within a wound, radical reactive oxygen compounds aggressively attack healthy tissue (including lipids, proteins, and DNA), causing irreparable damage. These radicals also attack protective systems that the body sends out to heal wounds, further delaying healing. A body's protective systems are made of low-molecular weighted compounds, including vitamin C and vitamin E, as well as macromolecular compounds, including various enzymes.

When deep tissue damage occurs, these various compounds begin working with the leukocytes (white blood cells), and are not able to halt the creation of free oxygen radicals. When a wound is infected with bacteria, the body sends white blood cells to the site, to fight the infection. While free oxygen radicals are good at attacking and damaging healthy tissue, they are not able to inhibit bacterial growth. Instead, the bacteria and radicals each work to degrade the macromolecules of the tissues, allowing white blood cells to penetrate the surface, creating pus. Even without bacterial infection, these free oxygen radicals cause excessive scabbing, which slows the healing process. Conventional medical wound treatments concern themselves with treating infection and inflammation, whereas Wound-Be-Gone® works to prevent infection.

Wound-Be-Gone® is especially effective in areas that can be difficult to treat, such as bed sores and diabetic legs. The polymer used in Wound-Be-Gone® have multiple attributes that make them effective in wound healing. First, they are made of large macromolecules, all interconnected. The size of these molecules prevents them from penetrating the skin and wound, keeping them on the surface of the wound. This allows the gel to coat and protect the wound. It also helps provide the active ingredients with the time necessary to do their work of bonding free oxygen radicals. Furthermore, since the gel has high water content, the fact that it remains on the surface of the wound means that it keeps the wound moist, creating an optimal, homeostatic environment for healing to happen. The applications for Wound-Be-Gone®, as evidenced through extensive field tests in the hospitals, show that this gel is very effective for healing a variety of wounds. This patented Oxygen Free Radical Binding technology has amazing implications for preventing infection and inflammation on skin and muscle injuries, and encouraging fast healing.

This technology is applicable in first aid, hospital and post hospital care. In addition to speeding healing and preventing infection, Wound-Be-Gone® prevents scab formation, resulting in reduced scarring. In fact, even though Wound-Be-Gone® contains no antibiotic or antiviral ingredients, it has still proven effective in healing cold sores and psoriasis, further revealing its significant application in wound healing and healthcare.
